I’ve always been interested in technology, specifically the power of technology to entertain, tell stories, communicate, connect, engage and transform how we see the world and how we do things. This manifested in an interest in technology, computers and games from the days of the ZX81 and the Atari console to our current, digitally dense lives.
I studied for an Information Technology degree at Teesside University as I was determined to pursue an education focused on a business and technology mix. This focused on transforming organisations through technology-enabled business change.
This lead into a diverse, imaginative career across IT Leadership/CIO, commercial software and consultancy across a range of service-orientated, fast-paced, agile and growing organisations as well as a new start-up delivering SaaS solutions before the word was invented. While working for dynamic, growing businesses I benefited from them having large, blue chip clients with stakeholders across the UK, Use and Asia. The focus was on being at the commercial interface between people and technology to drive change, improving the business and delivering new services.
I graduated with a Global MBA from Durham Business School in 2011 as a personal challenge and to invest in my own personal development. This cumulated in a dissertation on Enterprise Architecture as Strategy – Maturity of Practices in Small, Medium and Large Organisations. I also concentrated my studies across the three areas of interest that have come out of my career:-
- Technology Enabled Business Transformation
- Service Excellence
- Marketing
As a consultant I enjoy doing the same thing I’ve always done, tackling and resolving people, procee and technology problems, driving change and improve organisations. As we proclaim that IT is Dead and Long Live Digital and technology integrates more into our lives the potential for this is accelerated. The shift of information and technology to a consumer related, engagement focused and experience lead model wrapped up in our digitally dense lives has enormous potential for transformation, service delivery and marketing.
